The Asia Pacific Observatory (APO), launched in June 2011 is modeled on the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies. The APO is a partnership between WHO (WPRO and SEARO), World Bank, ADB, AusAID, governments of the region and research partners, with its secretariat hosted by WHO WPRO. One of the core activities of the Observatory is the production of the health systems in transition (HiT) reports- in-depth profiles of a country's health system, using a standardized template (attached). The bulk of the Observatory's analytical work is carried out by the three research hubs appointed by the APO, one of which is led by the Institute for Health Policy (IHP) led by Dr. Ravi Rannan-Eliya. The APO has assigned the production of the Indonesia HiT to IHP, together with its local partner the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).

The objectives of the National Stakeholder consultation meeting on the 25th of July in Jakarta is as follows:

  1. To familiarise and sensitize relevant partners about APO and the proposed HiTs.
  2. To agree an authoring team for the HiTs, with all sections of the template delegated
  3. To agree coordination arrangements with UGM
  4. To bring in relevant other research partners
  5. To mobilise additional funding support from Development Partners
  6. To finalise workplan and timeline.
